In an evening match on Friday, November 17th 2006, the Stanford Men's Rugby Team traveled across the bay and defeated Cal Maritime. The team displayed great resilience in a comeback victory over a very physically strong Cal Maritime squad.
The team got off to slow start allowing Cal Maritime to dominate the opening 10 minutes. However, an outstanding break by Jon Hofius from within his own half lead to a penalty in front of the posts, which was converted by Mike Velsich. From this point the team began to dominate the game with quick taps, great ball retention up the middle from both centers, and some effective clearing out. Stanford won, with a final score of 13-8.
The team is now looking forward to the centennial banquet and alumni game, the 2nd and 3rd of December respectively.Kickoff is at 7.30pm. We will be playing 2 x 30min.
