Stanford 10s
Oct 27, 2007
Stanford:
Opponent:
The Stanford Men’s Rugby Club entered two teams in the 2007 Stanford 10s Tournament, Stanford White and Stanford Red. Both teams were comprised largely of rookies, many getting their first taste of a full match. Aided by some guidance from the handful of returners who played, the energy and enthusiasm of the rookies made the day a great success for Stanford Rugby. Not only did both sides show toughness and determination, but also displayed a developing sense for the game of rugby, which they were able to put on display with solid passing and penetrating lines.
The match of the day came when Stanford White took on Stanford Red in the semifinals of the tournament. Fueled by their familial rivalry, the two sides dug into each other from start to finish. The result was a well-played game in which both sides fought for every yard, but in which White eventually prevailed 12-10. Unfortunately, White succumbed to an experienced San Jose State team in the finals to finish with a 4-2 record for the day. Red finished 2-3. Records aside, the heart, determination, and skill displayed by Stanford’s newest rugby players lends great hope for this season and seasons beyond.
