Stanford 1st XV v. University of Calgary 1st XV
The Cardinal dropped its second game in a row by a score of 34-19 to the University of Calgary Dinos. The touring Canadian side was able to exploit some defensive lapses by Stanford to jump out to an early lead. Bolstered by the return of team captain Pat Danahy at lock, the Cardinal pack continued its strong scrimmaging and began to wear down the Dino defense with repeated pick-and-go runs off the breakdown. During the middle of the game, Stanford showed improved organization on offense and defense and rode its strong pack to close to within striking distance of Calgary. Unfortunately, the Dinos were able to regain control of the game as the second half wore, breaking the Stanford line for several long tries.
